October is breast cancer awareness month, or pinktober, as many of us call it. This is the annual campaign to spread awareness about the disease as while most people are aware of breast cancer, many forget to take the steps to have a plan to detect the disease in its early stages and encourage others to do the same. Thus, the Winchester school gets actively involved in spreading awareness through a number of events, charities and assemblies. This year, we had several bake sales and charities to raise money for breast cancer patients. At the end of the month, we had a mufti day where the school raised money, and spread awareness of pink simultaneously. The non uniform day proceeded with a fashion show on great inspirational women and a flash mob to spread awareness. Moreover, the older girls of the school had talks and assemblies enlightening them on the ways of self evaluaton and detection. I personally enjoyed this month thoroughly and absolutely admired how involved our school was this year. It was the little things like writing notes for our mums and painting the pink ribbon on the wall that made this year’s participation stand out so much. Therefore, Events like this provide a wonderful opportunity for younger children to get involved in a cause that has touched and affected so many. Overall it was a wonderful contribution and I hope our school will continue to annually engage in this very precious campaign.
